Weekend Recap - Diversity at the MTV Movie Awards

Unlike some of this year's earlier award ceremonies, last night's MTV Movie Awards featured a healthy dose of diversity. Straight Outta Compton was nominated and won Best True Story, while host du jour, Kevin Hart, cracked racy jokes that ran rampant. Hart nicknamed his co-host, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "chocolate Shrek." This was followed up by several more f-bombs and a rap sketch titled, “When Leo Got f—ed by a Bear,” in reference to DiCaprio’s role in The Revenant. The Oscars bore the brunt of the joke after Kendrick Lamar presented Straight Outta Compton with the Best True Story award. In reference to his Oscars snub, Jason Mitchell said: “I’d just like to take a moment tonight to thank the Academy." And while Will Smith famously boycotted this year’s Oscars, the actor’s attendance was a sure thing, since MTV awarded him the Generation Award.

Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island performed an amazing tribute to Smith that included “Summertime,” “Men in Black,” and the theme song for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
