The Boondocks Is Coming To HBO Max
The Boondocks is coming back and this time, the show’s creator Aaron McGruder is on board! WarnerMedia’s new streaming service HBO Max has confirmed the order of a two season reboot of the comic strip turned critically acclaimed cartoon. The show originally debuted on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in 2007 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, quickly becoming cultural staple in the urban community.
In an interview with Deadline, McGruder stated, “There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
McGruder had previously stepped away from the show in order to focus on other creative ventures such as Black Jesus. His departure led his previous network home - Cartoon Network - to produce season 4 of the hit show without his involvement that did not play over well with fans.
You can catch the hijinks of Huey, Riley, and Granddad in fall 2020 on HBO Max. For more on the reboot, check out Deadline’s coverage.
