Google Commemorates Wilbur Scoville

Today, Google celebrates the long life and career of Wilbur Scoville, an American chemist and inventor of the Scoville test, a scale that has been used for over 100 years to rate determine the spiciness level of a hot chili pepper. The test measures the heat concentration of capsaicin, the key culprit behind the addictive sensation that burns your tongue when you bite into a spicy pepper. To commemorate Scoville’s culinary contributions, Google has launched a fun interactive Doodle that invites users to neutralize big bad chili in their tracks. Lots of chili-heads in the office, so you know what we’ll be doing this afternoon to kill time.
