BET Awards Recap
The 16th annual BET Awards last night at the Microsoft Theater was certainly one for the books. Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar got into surprise formation, Grey's Anatomy actor/social activist Jesse Williams gave a poignant speech, and big names in hip-hop and R&B came together to pay homage to the Purple One.Following Billboard's debacle of a tribute to Prince, the network delivered on their promise to celebrate his legacy with a series of acts by Prince's contemporaries and proteges, like Erykah Baduh, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Maxwell, Janelle Monae, and Shelia E. Check out some of their performances here. The night was also socially and politically charged, as Williams gave a riveting speech about the injustices that have happened, and still happen, against African-Americans. "The more we learn about who we are and how we got here, the more we will mobilize,” he said, dedicating his award to black women, “who have spent their lives dedicated to nurturing everyone before themselves."In case you didn't already know, here is the list of 2016 BET Award winners:Best Male R&B/Pop Artist -- Bryson TillerBest Female R&B/Pop Artist -- BeyoncéBest Actor -- Michael B.
