'Area 51' - AOL's Virtual Reality Demo Day
Last Thursday, we had the awesome opportunity to attend AOL's 'Area 51 Virtual Reality Day' at their HQ in Manhattan. AOL is one of the world's leaders in showcasing the future of technology, so it was only fitting that they host a demo day for various virtual reality industry leaders to come together to display advances in wearable tech, content creation, and real-world applications.The event kicked off with a panel of the future leaders of VR, moderated by AOL's Chief Technology Officer Bill Pence. The panel featured Eric Greenbaum, Emblematic Group, Vantage.tv, BrilliantVR.com, Ryot, YouVisit, LittlStar and Floored. There was a plethora of interesting topics discussed around the content being created for VR, how accessible headsets are becoming, and how this tech can be applied to numerous industries. We got to take a trip to the TomorrowWorld Festival, help design the stage lighting for the Stephen Colbert show, and dive into a 2 minute meditation session, all from the comforts of the AOL office. The demos included NYC's most exciting VR start-ups, including Ryot, SurrealVR, IrisVR, BrilliantVR, Vantage.tv, VisiSonics, Captivision, Floored, LittlStar, OneBook, Emblematic Group, Augment, Alex Coulombe Creative and Fisher Dachs, Cubicle Ninjas, Presto and more.
