Superbowl 51 was definitely jam packed with surprises – football fanatics from all over were shocked by the Patriot’s incredible comeback and second-half domination. Lady Gaga also wowed watchers with her performance, which was complete with an amusing acrobatic entrance, stunning costume designs, and killer dance moves. Although the game and halftime performance may have been crowdpleasers, audiences were not exactly impressed by this year’s commercials. Media has been calling the ads lackluster and disappointing. But, we found some to be the most heart-wrenching emotive commercials in a long time. Most notably, 84 Lumber took the time to create a beautiful, cinematic piece deeply rooted in civil rights messaging during these tumultuous political times. You can view it and our other favorites below:
Honda’s ‘Yearbook’ Ad: We were impressed by Honda’s creativity with this year’s ad. Honda took old celebrity photos, appealing to all of our nostalgic sides, and paid tribute to all of the dreamers out there. Audiences received advice from some of entertainment’s finest – Tina Fey, Amy Adams, Jimmy Kimmel and Missy Elliott to just name a few.
84 Lumber : After showing part of the ad, 84 Lumber directed people to check out Journey84.com to see the rest. Unfortunately, the site didn’t prepare for the inundation of viewers, as the site crashed shortly after, displaying the reach and emotional power of the ad. The ad featured a Spanish-speaking mother and daughter apparently traveling from Mexico to the United States. The end, which shows the pair discovering a door in a giant wall, was reportedly banned from TV since it commented on President Donald Trump’s promised border wall. Stranger Things Season 2 Trailer: Excited Netflix fans got a sneak peak at season 2 of the series, spurning discussions about what’s to come from the thrilling, science fiction- inspired show. As huge Netflix fans ourselves, our only complaint is that the October air date is too far away.
World of Tanks ‘Housewives’ Spoof - World of Tanks drew unlikely inspiration from the reality TV series, spoofing the women and the show, with no shortage of breaking and destroying things.
