Last night's 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony brought together the most talented individuals in film and TV for a night jam packed of surprises. The event, which was hosted by beloved comedian Jimmy Fallon, helped kick off a great new year in entertainment by paying tribute to 2016's most impressive cinematic masterpieces and enduring performances.
La La Land was perhaps the biggest winner of the night, breaking a record for most awards won by a single film. The musical took home awards for all seven categories in which it was nominated - including "Best Actor, Musical or Comedy" and "Best Actress, Musical or Comedy." We couldn't help but cry when Gosling thanked his wife during his acceptance speech.
Other standout winners included Moonlight, which took home the award for "Best Picture, Drama" and has been applauded as a brilliant coming-of-age story, and the emotional film Fences which has been garnering critical acclaim - Viola Davis took home the award for "Best Supporting Actress" for the film. As diehard fans of the television series, Atlanta, which is rooted in hip-hop and touches upon important social issues, Cashmere Agency's favorite moment of the night was Donald Glover's acceptance speech for his award for "Best Actor, Television Series Comedy or Musical." Glover delivered a heartwarming speech, thanking those who have supported and influenced him - including praising Migos, "not for their involvement in the show, but for their song Bad and Boujee". Atlanta also celebrated the win for "Best Television Series Comedy or Musical."
An additional highlight from the ceremony was Meryl Streep's speech as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, focusing upon diversity in Hollywood and -without mentioning his name- called out President elect Donald Trump.
Cashmere Agency is excited to see what the new year will bring in entertainment! Here's to more acceptance speeches praising diversity and films and television series that champion social issues.
