The 49th annual NAACP Image Awards brought out crusaders of black culture in television, film, music and more. This year the ceremony fell on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, casting an even brighter light on the night’s festivities.
The inspiring energy surrounding the event lead to many powerful speeches. Amongst them was the #TimesUp speech delivered by Kerry Washington, Lena Waithe, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laverne Cox, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Angela Robinson. These black visionaries delivered the message loud and clear, urging people to vote during the midterm elections.
“The midterms are a perfect moment for us to use our voices,” said Robinson. “If we can take back a seat in Alabama…” “Then we have the ability to shift the imbalance of power,” Smollet-Bell concluded.
Along with powerful speeches, many critically acclaimed films and television series were recognized for their influential work. Cashmere Agency has had the privilege of working with many of those honored that evening, including: Claws, Dear White People, Get Out and Girls Trip.
